About EmilyBritish artist, painter & award winning film maker, Emily Brown, creates unique & contemporary works of art from her studio in Buckinghamshire. Emily has been drawing & painting since she was old enough to stand at an easel.
In 2021, Emily approached her local theatre, The Elgiva, with an ambitious idea for a huge community art project. Over the following 5 months, & working as a volunteer, Emily designed & ran what would become ‘The Big Picture’, comprising of 6 projects. One of these art projects was a 2 meter-wide polyptych Emily painted with 39 other local artists of all ages/abilities. The painting featured a line drawing of Queen Elgiva & 10th century Chesham, painted by Emily across all 40 canvases before they were distributed to participants. Each artist then decorated their piece of the portrait & once assembled together, the reveal was fascinating & impactful. The 40 canvases were also judged by local celeb, Alex Horne (from Ch4's Task Master), for an exciting competition. The project featured in local newspapers, went on tour around 3 gallery spaces, Emily was interviewed on the radio & everyone involved benefited, from learning new skills & making connections with other creatives, to improved mental health. In 2022 Emily was commissioned to paint 2 huge murals on Chesham high street by Bucks Council. A double, life-size portrait of shopkeepers from Chesham’s history was created by Emily at Tap Yard and a giant, 14m wide skyline of Chesham, created by Emily & Shevon Burrows, has now been revealed on Baines Walk. Both works, which commenced in March, have been commissioned by Bucks Council & funded with thanks from the Welcome Back Fund. The murals have been causing quite a stir on the high street & on social media. Emily's love of the arts has always included film, & this led Emily to study a BA Hons in Film & TV at the University of Surrey, after which she secured her first role at the BBC. She has spent the last 15 years shooting & directing documentaries for the likes of the BBC, Ch4, Ch5 & UKTV & her passion for crafting human interest stories, as well as filming all round the country, stems from her love of narrative paintings, portraiture, landscapes & conceptual art. Emily lives in Chesham with her actor & writer husband, Ben Rufus Green, & is currently working on multiple mural commissions, running a market stall & Etsy shop & she also regularly shoots and directs comedy & documentary films. |
